McGuinty Government Making Ontario's Roads Safer
Ontario's ban on hand-held devices while driving will take effect on October 26, 2009.
The new law will make it illegal for drivers to talk, text, type, dial or email using hand-held cell phones and other hand-held communications and entertainment devices.
Following a three-month period that begins October 26, where the focus will be on educating drivers, police will start issuing tickets on February 1, 2010.

Ontario motorists will likely have until fall before it becomes illegal to use hand-held cellphones and other electronic devices like BlackBerrys and global positioning systems while at the wheel.
The Legislature unanimously passed the government's law against "distracted driving" yesterday but it will take several months before associated regulations are drawn up and a public education campaign launched, said Transportation Minister Jim Bradley.
Upcoming Ontario law banning the use of Cellular phone while driving a motor vehicle gets the support of the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

Oakville, January 5, 2009. A private member's bill proposing a ban on the use of cellular devices and other handheld equipment while driving on a highway received second reading in Ontario's Legislative Assembly on Oct. 28. Bill 118, originally Bill 40, would amend the Highway Traffic Act to prohibit the use of a cellular phone and car phone while a person is driving a motor vehicle:
